Dr. Fabio Komlos, MD is a board-certified interventional radiologist and Medical Director of Interventional Radiology, serving patients throughout Mountain View, Palo Alto, and Silicon Valley. With over 17 years of experience and advanced training at Harvard, Mayo Clinic, and the University of South Florida, Dr. Komlos specializes in minimally invasive, image-guided procedures that deliver faster recovery and superior outcomes for his patients.

Education and Training

Dr. Komlos earned his medical degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, one of the country’s most prestigious medical schools. He then completed his residency training at two of the most respected medical institutions in the United States: the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He went on to complete his fellowship in Interventional Radiology at the University of South Florida, where he gained advanced expertise in catheter-based and image-guided treatments. Dr. Komlos holds dual board certification from the American Board of Radiology in both Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Radiology (IR/DR), reflecting his comprehensive training in both diagnosing and treating complex medical conditions using minimally invasive techniques.

Areas of Specialization

As a fellowship-trained interventional radiologist, Dr. Komlos performs a wide range of advanced, minimally invasive procedures. His clinical practice focuses on several key areas: Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE) — A non-surgical treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) that reduces prostate size and relieves urinary symptoms without the risks and recovery time associated with traditional surgery. Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) — A catheter-based procedure that treats symptomatic uterine fibroids by blocking their blood supply, offering women a uterus-preserving alternative to hysterectomy. Y90 Radioembolization — A targeted liver cancer treatment that delivers radiation-loaded microspheres directly to tumors through the hepatic artery, concentrating treatment at the tumor site while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. Vascular Disease Management — Including treatment for peripheral arterial disease (PAD), deep vein thrombosis (DVT), carotid artery disease, and critical limb ischemia (CLI) using angioplasty, stenting, and thrombolysis techniques. Interventional Oncology — Including chemoembolization (TACE), tumor ablation, and other targeted therapies for liver, kidney, and other cancers.

Patient-Centered Approach

Dr. Komlos believes that every patient deserves a thorough understanding of their condition and all available treatment options. He takes the time to explain each procedure in detail, answer questions, and develop individualized treatment plans based on each patient’s unique medical history and goals. His minimally invasive approach means most procedures are performed through a small incision or needle puncture, typically under conscious sedation, allowing patients to return home the same day and resume normal activities within days rather than weeks.

Multilingual Care

Dr. Komlos is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, allowing him to communicate directly with a diverse patient population across the Bay Area and ensure that language is never a barrier to receiving high-quality medical care.
